Letter written and postmarked on April 27, 1942 by Edmund Czerwinski, age 48, to his wife Ludmilla in Szamotuły, Poland from Gusen

My dearly beloved Ludke, mother and dear little Terenis! I was very happy to read your letter from February 8th. With that said, you write so very little and Terenis only wrote three words. I am in good health and wish the same for you. Thank you for the 20 Reichsmark. There are good people in the world after all. Kroschel also sent me 10 Reichsmarks. Please thank him. My love, although you claim to have lost the will to live, you still have someone to live for, our precious young daughter needs someone to raise her. But don't despair, God willing I will return to you, and everything will be all right again. I am sorely missing you and my one and only child. Greetings to all our family, friends, and acquaintances. Do you visit Gentalla sometimes? Give him my regards. Please write to me more frequently. Finally, many thanks and kisses to everyone. Dear, Teneris! Be kind and ask God to send your father back home. 

Meine innig geliebte Ludke, Mutter und teures Terenischen! Dein Brief vom 08.02. hat mich sehr gefreut. Du schreibst bloß zu wenig, auch Terenis schreibt nur drei Wörter. Danke für 20 Reichsmark. Es gibt doch gute Menschen. Kroschel schickte mir auch 10 Reichsmark. Danke ihm bitte. Bin gesund und wünsche es euch meine Lieben auch, Du schreibst, dass dir die Lust zum Leben vergeht, Meine Liebe, du hast doch für wen zu leben, unser teures Töchterchen muss doch erzogen werden. Aber nur nicht verzagen, wenn Gott es gibt, und ich zu Euch komme, wird alles wieder gut. Habe fürchterliche Sehnsucht nach dir und meinem einzigen Kind. Grüße an alle Verwandten und Bekannten.
