Letter written on April 23, 1944, postmarked on the 28th, by Stanislaw Michalek, age 45, to his daughter Stanislawa, in Krakow, Poland from Auschwitz 

My dear Taniu! I gratefully received the packages - yours from April 5th, your mother's from April 12th, and Fusia's from April 15th in excellent condition. Although the letter is still missing, I believe it is on its way. Everything is the same with me. We are relieved that the winter is behind us as the days are only growing longer and warmer. What has changed at home? Wladek, are you feeling better? How's father Wejsz doing? I am eagerly anticipating your letter. Send my regards to everyone, kiss mother's hands for me. The letter will probably reach you before May 8. I'll think of you both often and send you both hugs and kisses. Stasiu! What is your mother's condition? Do you recall my most recent request? Have you got a ton of work? My letter currently looks like this: full of questions. It is your fault for not writing any letters to me lately. Other than the fact that I am well and do not need anything, I don't know what to tell you about myself. To everyone at home, greetings. I am sending you kisses. Your father

Meine Liebe Taniu! Pakete, Dein vom 5/4, Mutter vom 12.4. und von Fusia 15/4 dankend in bester Ordnung erhalten hast. Es fehlt mir der Brief, doch ich hoffe, dass ich unterwegs bin. Bei mir alles beim Alten. Nur die Tage werden länger, es ist warm geworden, wir sind froh, den Winter hinter uns zu haben. Was gibt es zu Hause? Dem Wladek geht es schon besser? Wie geht es dem Papa Wejsz? Ich sehe mit Sehnsucht Deinem Brief entgegen. Küsse der Mutter die Hände, grüsse alle von mir. Du wirst den Brief kurz vor 8 Mai erhalten. Ich bleibe bei Euch mit Gedanken, umarme beide und küsse herzlich. Stasiu! Schreibe mir bitte, ob Mutti gesund ist. Gedenkst Du meine letzten Bitte? Hast du viel Arbeit? So sieht mein heutiger Brief aus. Ich frage und frage. Alles daran Schuld, dass ich keine Nachrichten von Euch habe.
