Letter written on August 1, 1943, by Heinrich Dawicki, age 36, to his parents in Lodz, Poland from Dachau

My dear parents and everyone! I received with gratitude your letter from July 25th, 1943, as well as the last package. I’m sorry that Marysia is sick, and my dear mother! Why did you not write anything about that until now? How sick is Marysia and how is she faring now? So please at least send a few words by way of a response right away! I feel completely healthy, which I also sincerely wish for all of you. Write regarding how long Marysia has been in the clinic and what is wrong with my dear mother’s finger. I thank you all for the package.

Meine lieben Eltern und alle!Mit Dankbarkeit habe ich Ihren Brief vom 25. Juli 1943 sowie das letzte Paket erhalten. Es tut mir leid, dass Marysia krank ist, und meine liebe Mutter! Warum haben Sie bisher nichts darüber geschrieben? Wie krank ist Marysia und wie geht es ihr jetzt? Also bitte wenigstens gleich ein paar Worte als Antwort schicken! Ich fühle mich rundum gesund, was ich Ihnen auch von Herzen wünsche. Schreiben Sie, wie lange Marysia schon in der Klinik ist und was mit dem Finger meiner lieben Mutter nicht stimmt. Ich danke euch allen für das Paket.
