Letter written on February 5, 1944, by Heinrich Dawicki, age 36, to his parents in Lodz, Poland from Dachau

Dearest parents! I already received your letter from January 25th, 1944, for which I thank you very much. I am already in good health, and I wish the same for you. Dear parents! I am very curious about what you look like, whether you are healthy and whether you continue to work at the same place? I received all the packages, but with something of a delay, because the post office has a lot of work. And now I ask you, dear parents, if it’s possible, to send something to me more often. I also have a major request for money, if there’s a possibility, because I have nothing in my account. There was a pause in the writing of letters, thus I wasn’t able to write. Dear parents! I know that you were with the Maliszewski’s, because Kazik showed that to me. I don’t need any medications, as I am doing quite well.

Liebste Eltern! Ihren Brief vom 25. Januar 1944 habe ich bereits erhalten, wofür ich Ihnen sehr danke. Ich bin bereits bei guter Gesundheit und ich wünsche Ihnen dasselbe. Liebe Eltern! Ich bin sehr gespannt, wie du aussiehst, ob du gesund bist und ob du weiterhin an der gleichen Stelle arbeitest? Ich habe alle Pakete erhalten, aber mit etwas Verspätung, weil die Post viel Arbeit hat. Und nun bitte ich Sie, liebe Eltern, wenn es Ihnen möglich ist, mir öfter etwas zu schicken. Ich habe auch eine große Bitte um Geld, wenn es die Möglichkeit gibt, weil ich nichts auf meinem Konto habe. Es gab eine Pause im Schreiben von Briefen, daher konnte ich nicht schreiben. Liebe Eltern! Ich weiß, dass du bei den Maliszewskis warst, weil Kazik mir das gezeigt hat. Ich brauche keine Medikamente, da es mir sehr gut geht.
