Postcard from Bolzano transit camp in Dobbiaco, Italy, written on August 7, 1942, by Martin to Major Reinhold Bollert in Hirschberg, Germany
Dear Reinhold, Yesterday Friedel finally brought me your postcard with your so strangely dematerialized portrait among your fellow Germans in Altheide. Thanks a lot! What a pity that you cannot come to visit. We moved into our trusted and beloved farmhouse again, and we look, I think, thanks to the blessings of livestock beyond flies, a little bit more well-nourished than you folks. And should your heart long for something else other than milk, let me tell you that Kaltern and Terlan are not far away, and that there is wine in abundance here (1 lira = about 1 Reichsmark). Warmest regards from our house to yours! Yours,
