Letter postmarked on January 9, 1943, from Sachsenhausen concentration camp written on January 3, 1943, by Roman Warst to his wife Wladyslawa in Warthegau, Poland

Dear Mom, Dad, Son, and Siblings! I can honestly say that I received the cards, cash, and food parcels on December 23rd, which you, mother, and Marie, sent to me in the best of health. Marie should remember to include the date on the note when sending parcels so I can let her know which ones I have and have not received. You claim, my dear mother, that someone advised against sending too much bread; this is untrue. Send as much as you would like. I am deeply sorry that you must work at your advanced age and with this illness, dear mother; I am sorry that I am unable to help you and that I am just making things harder for you. I feel like a burden. Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year to all our friends and family, especially to you, my dear mother, Marie, and my little boy.
