Letter written by Longin Literacki, age 22, on November 5, 1944, to his mother in Lodz, Poland from Dachau

Dear Mother, So far, I haven't received an answer from you dear mother. But I'm not worried about you mother because I think you're healthy and I might get the letter a few days late. I'm healthy and feeling pretty good. I always work at the same place, just always thinking of you my love and impatiently wait for moments when we will be together again. My mother! Write to me if Aunt Dunia is with you and if there is news from my father. Greetings from me to my father and to Aunt Dunia. Mom: Never forget your faith and hope. Everything will be fine. Keep your head up! So, I have already finished my writing. I wish you all the best. And I send you, dear mother, thousands of kisses, and greetings. Always loving you, Longin Greetings and kisses for father and aunt Dunia. Greetings for Aunt Wiaola, Bolek, kisses for little Bozenka. Greetings to H. Jerzy and his mother, H. Jaworskich, Andreyarow and all acquaintances. I am writing this letter 5 days after your visit to Babeia and Witold - I will never forget that.

 Liebe Mutter, Bis jetzt habe ich noch keine Antwort von dir liebe Mutter bekommen. Aber ich habe keine Sorge um dir Materska, weil, glaube ich, bist du gesund und kein Brief. Bekomme ich vielleicht ein paar Tage mit Verspätung. Ich bin gesund und fühle mich ziemlich gut. Arbeite ich immer auf derselben Stelle, denke bloß immer an euch meine Liebe und warte mit Ungeduld auf Momente, wie wir wieder zusammen sind. Meine Mutti! Schreib mir, ob Tante Dunia zusammen mit dir und was für eine Nachricht von Vater. Schön gegrüßt von mir, auch Tante Dunia. Mutti muss nie deinen Glauben und Hoffnung vergessen, wird alles noch gut. Immer Kopf hoch! Also, ich ende schon meine Schreiberei. Ich wünsche euch alles Gute. Und dir liebe Materska sende ich tausende Küsse und Grüße, Immer die liebende Longin Grüße und Küsse für Vater und Tante Dunia. Grüße für Tante Wiaola, Bolek, Küsse für kleine Bozenka. Grüße an H.
